Spectrum Industries Inc. Hosts Chippewa County Manufacturing Boot Camp

Posted: August 1, 2018

The Chippewa County Manufacturing Boot Camp hosted by Chippewa Valley Exploring and the Chippewa Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America, has been preparing students for the future by partnering with companies in the Chippewa Valley to help students gain hands-on experience in the field of manufacturing and build job skills such as learning how to write a resume.

The Chippewa County Manufacturing Boot Camp visited Spectrum Industries Inc. where students were able to learn more about manufacturing and gain hands-on experience assembling products. Spectrum has hosted the program at its facilities for three years.

With the help of Spectrum’s employees, Nick Coonts, Safety Manager, Jeremy Henck, Product Engineering Manager, Jennifer Lindstrom, Controller, and Travis Tainter, Technology Education teacher at Chippewa Falls High School, students were able to learn how to cut and bend metal at Advanced Laser and assembled nightstands at Spectrum’s First Avenue facility. While at Spectrum, students learned about Spectrum’s manufacturing process, the history of Spectrum, and how Spectrum’s products are assembled.

“Over the past couple of years, Spectrum has been involved in the manufacturing boot camp,” stated Henck.  “We are proud to be part of this for a couple reasons. First of all, the manufacturing boot camp allows the kids to experience hands-on manufacturing; showing them that manufacturing isn’t a low-tech process. Additionally, it exposes them to the manufacturing technologies and opportunities within the Chippewa Valley. With the staffing issues everyone is experiencing today, it’s important to keep these kids in the area as they progress through their education and careers.”

While at Spectrum, students assembled a locker nightstand and were able to take it home or donate it to their school. Spectrum is honored to teach young people of the community hands-on manufacturing and future ready skills.

Spectrum Industries Inc. is headquartered in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and innovates products that that facilitate learning by incorporating innovative designs with technology and communications equipment. Spectrum produces lecterns, tables, desks, carts, and chairs perfect for any education, healthcare, government, or corporate setting.
